Time-Trialing just for the fun of it

With important time-trials coming up soon (Gaston Langlois 40km part of Super Prestige series in Quebec), and the National championships, I need to increase the intensity and work more specifically at time-trialing since this is my strength on the bike.

So today, with good conditions, light winds < 10km/hour, about 25 degrees C, about 75% humidity and the atmospheric pressure just under the standard 101.3? kilopascal at 101.0 (the lower the pressure, the easier it is to penetrate the air, hence more speed, see www.analyticcycling.com), I decided to go out and do a time-trial.

So with old teammates from VCOM, Mario Iannacci and Pierre Lacoste we headed out to the seaway path closed to traffic for a 15km out and back time-trial. Mario wanted to test out changes to his bike, and Pierre wasn't too excited about doing a time-trial just for the fun of it. Finally Pierre decided he would draft behind me.

So I clocked in at 20:20, for 44.3 km/hour average. Not a personal best, as I have done this course under 20 minutes, but respectable as I am not in peak form. It is encouraging for the coming weeks.

A friend from the YMCA Parc avenue triathlon team asked me for some tips about time-trialing. So I compiled a long list of time-trialing advice in French. I'll be translating soon and posting it on my next time-trialing blog entry.

Enjoy the weekend!
